Acceptable use policy
Last updated 9 September 2026
Almost all of this reduces to one rule: message people who asked to hear from you, and stop when they ask you to stop. The rest is detail.
1Consent is the whole policy
You may only message a person who has given you their number for the purpose you are using it for. A number scraped from a website, bought in a list, collected for an unrelated purpose, or harvested from a group you joined is not consent, and sending to it is a breach of this policy regardless of what your message says.
This is not only an ethical position. Unsolicited messaging is the fastest way to get a number banned by WhatsApp, and a banned number is not a problem we can fix for you.
2Honour opt-outs immediately
When someone asks to stop, stop — on that number and on every other number you operate through us. WaveSenda detects common opt-out phrases and records them, but the obligation is yours, and an opt-out recorded automatically is not a defence for continuing to send.
Do not require a person to create an account, reply with a code, or contact support in order to be left alone.
3Prohibited content
You may not use WaveSenda to send or facilitate:
- Unsolicited bulk or commercial messaging of any kind.
- Fraud, phishing, impersonation of a person, business or public body, or any message designed to obtain credentials, payment details or one-time codes under false pretences.
- Investment, cryptocurrency, gambling or lending offers targeted at people who did not ask for them.
- Malware, or links to it.
- Child sexual abuse material, or any content sexualising a minor. Accounts are terminated immediately and reported.
- Harassment, threats, incitement to violence, or content promoting hatred against a group of people.
- Content unlawful in the jurisdiction of either the sender or the recipient, including unlicensed pharmaceutical, weapon and controlled-substance sales.
- Election, health or public-safety misinformation distributed at scale.
4Prohibited technical use
- Evading WhatsApp’s own rate limits or bans — including rotating through numbers to continue a campaign that got a previous number banned.
- Circumventing the deliverability engine’s throttles and pauses, or operating a number in a way designed to hide its behaviour from health scoring.
- Reselling access without a reseller agreement, or sharing an API key with a third party outside your organisation.
- Automated scraping of contact lists, group member lists or profile data for any purpose other than serving your own conversations.
- Load testing against live numbers. Use a test key.
5AI agents
If an AI agent replies on your behalf, you are responsible for what it says. In particular you must not configure an agent to claim to be a specific named human, deny being automated when directly asked, or give medical, legal or financial advice it is not qualified to give.
Agents must offer a route to a person. The handoff mechanism exists for that reason and disabling every path to it is a breach of this policy.
6How we enforce this
We investigate on report, on abuse signals from our own systems, and on health data indicating a number is being used to send to people who did not want it. Depending on severity we may:
- Contact you and ask for an explanation.
- Throttle or pause sending on a specific number.
- Suspend an organisation’s access pending resolution.
- Terminate the account and retain evidence where the law requires it.
For the categories in clause 3 that involve serious harm we act immediately and without notice. For everything else we would rather have a conversation, because the most common cause of a breach here is a well-meaning business that misunderstood what consent means.
7WhatsApp's rules still apply
WaveSenda automates a standard WhatsApp account. WhatsApp’s own terms of service apply to that account and are enforced by WhatsApp, not by us. Compliance with this policy reduces the chance of a ban; it does not prevent one, and we cannot appeal one on your behalf.
8Reporting abuse
If you have received an unwanted message sent through WaveSenda, report it to abuse@wavesenda.com with the sending number and, if you can, a screenshot. We investigate every report, and we will tell you the outcome where doing so does not breach another person’s privacy.
