Your numbergot banned.

Here is the honest version: why it happened, what actually works now, and how to make sure the next one does not take your business with it.

We build tooling that tries to prevent this, so we are not neutral. We have also written this so it is worth reading if you never buy anything from us.

What to do today

01

Do not put the SIM in another phone and start again

Re-registering the same number after a ban usually earns a faster second ban, and can take the device with it. If you do nothing else, do not do this.

02

Appeal, from inside the app

Open WhatsApp on the banned number and use "Support" from the ban screen. Say what the number is for, in one paragraph, without arguing. Appeals do succeed, most often on a first ban with a plausible business explanation.

03

Expect days, not hours

There is no queue you can pay to skip and no phone number to call. Anyone selling you a faster unban is selling you nothing.

04

Tell your customers where you are

This is the part most businesses skip and the part that actually costs money. People mid conversation do not know you are gone; they think you are ignoring them.

Why it happened

WhatsApp does not publish its thresholds and nobody outside Meta knows them. What is observable, across a lot of numbers, is which behaviours precede a ban — roughly in this order.

Messaging people who never messaged you

The single biggest cause. A number that sends to strangers gets reported, and reports are what bans run on — not volume by itself.

Going fast on a new number

A number three days old sending two hundred messages an hour does not look like a business. It looks like what it looks like.

A low reply rate

WhatsApp can see that nobody answers you. A conversation nobody replies to is the clearest signal available that the other side did not want it.

Blocks and "report" taps

These are weighted heavily and they accumulate. A campaign that gets a small percentage of blocks can still cross the line on a number with no history.

Identical messages at scale

The same text sent a thousand times is trivially detectable. Varying the wording is not a trick; it is the difference between a broadcast and a conversation.

Keeping trading while you wait

A ban is survivable. Losing the conversations is not, and that is what usually happens: the number goes, and with it every thread, every open order and every customer who now thinks you stopped replying.

The fix is unglamorous — a second number, connected and idle, that already knows your flows and your agents. WaveSenda moves everything across when the first one dies and messages the people who were mid conversation to tell them where you are.

You can do a version of this by hand with any tool, and you should. The part worth paying for is that it happens in minutes at nine in the morning rather than whenever somebody notices.

Before the next one
  • Warm a new number over weeks. Not days.
  • Only message people who messaged you first.
  • Watch the reply rate. It falls before a ban, not after.
  • Vary your wording. Identical text at scale is the tell.
  • Honour opt-outs immediately, without argument.
  • Keep a standby number connected and idle.

Should you be on the official API instead?

Quite possibly. Meta’s Cloud API cannot be banned for this, because it is sanctioned — you pay per conversation, wait for business verification and send pre-approved templates outside a 24-hour window.

WaveSenda automates a normal WhatsApp account, which is against WhatsApp’s terms and carries the ban risk this page is about. We reduce that risk; we cannot remove it. If your messaging is outbound and at scale, the official API is the right answer and we will say so.
